Your Questions Answered

We’ve compiled some of the most common questions from members, affiliates, and partners to help you better understand how the National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU) operates and supports Uganda’s workers.

NOTU is Uganda’s national trade union centre that brings together registered labour unions under one umbrella to promote, defend, and advocate for workers’ social, political, and economic rights through effective representation and unity.

Membership of NOTU is open to all legally registered labour unions in Uganda that wish to affiliate in accordance with the Trade Union Act. Individual workers may join through their respective trade unions.

Affiliation fees and annual subscriptions are determined by NOTU’s General Council. Each union contributes a percentage of its collected union dues (10%) and a fixed annual amount based on its membership size.

Affiliated unions benefit from national representation, legal aid, leadership and organizational training, participation in policy dialogues, and access to welfare and social protection programs offered by NOTU.

Workers facing labour-related issues can reach out to NOTU’s Legal Affairs Department or their affiliated union for assistance. Our team provides consultation, representation, and mediation in workplace disputes and legal claims.

NOTU regularly organizes capacity-building workshops and leadership training programs focusing on labour standards, negotiation, digital skills, gender equality, and trade union empowerment to strengthen affiliates.
