NOTU With Support from ILO/PROSPECTS Program Trains Leaders From Several Farm Groups about OSH

National Organization of Trade Unions NOTU with support from the International Labour Organization ILO under the PROSPECTS program trained leaders from several farmers' groups about Occupational Safety and health OSH in order for them to avoid risks and hazards involved in the agriculture value chain.

These farmers were from Nakivale refugee settlement Camp and host communities in Isingiro district and engage in Soyabean farming, processing and horticulture value chain.

The training which took place at Banana Suits Hotel in Isingiro district aimed at preventing accidents, injuries and developing OSH improvement mechanisms while these farmers practice Soyabean farming and horticulture value chain. NOTU is partnering with other organizations like Ripple Effect and Isingiro District Local Government to train these farmers.

NOTU programmes officer ,Nicholas Businge said they aim at ensuring that workers from refugee and host communities engage in decent work and are protected by maintaining occupational health and safety. The training is also looking at enabling farmers to join voluntary contribution and smart-life registration with NSSF to ensure their Social security.
